Remove Antivirus 2009 the Easy Way – Use What You Already Have
By Stuart Bolender

Some of the sites you may visit for help with removing Antivirus 2009 may benefit from the widespread distribution of this malware by selling software to get rid of it.

I don’t mean to say that this is altogether terrible, for they are providing a service. I do mean to say that it is possible that you may not need additional software to remove Antivirus 2009 from your computer. (You’ll be able to find out in just a moment.)
That being said, you should also realize that if you had kept your security software up to date, your computer probably wouldn’t be infected with Antivirus 2009 in the first place. Knowing how to remove Antivirus 2009 doesn’t mean your computer is protected from it either.

The most important thing for you to realize is that Antivirus 2009 (or any of its variations) is NOT Windows Software and it is NOT Antivirus Software. It is a rogue anti-spyware that pretends to want to help you rid your system of infections. These are not real infections and Antivirus 2009 can’t clean a real infection if you really do have one! This malware is designed to scare you into paying for a bogus cure for a phony infection.
You should never buy anything that you haven’t researched or without a recommendation from a trusted source.

How To Remove Antivirus 2009

I have been successful in removing Antivirus 2009 (or instructing others to) by using this method. It’s easy enough for just about anyone to do and it does work. I’m sure there are situations that it won’t work, but it will work in many cases.

The System Restore Utility is intended to undo changes to your system that have made it unstable.
It can also be an effective means of restoring your computer to a point in time that it didn’t have Antivirus 2009 on it.

To remove Antivirus 2009, try restoring your system to an earlier date that you think you didn’t have Antivirus 2009 on it, then run a full virus scan and spyware scan with current virus and spyware definitions.

To run system restore:

  • Click your Start button.
  • Mouse over All Programs, Accessories, System Tools.
  • Click System Restore.
  • Click ‘Restore my computer to an earlier time’.
  • Click ‘Next’. Select one of the Boldface Dates.
  • Click ‘Next’.

Reboot you computer when prompted and run your (current) antivirus and antispyware softwares.

Forgotten Programs – A Tip For Your Slow-Running Computer

Forgotten Programs – A Tip For Your Slow-Running Computer
By Stuart Bolender

What Does That Button Do? When did you use that program last? Do you even remember what it is?

Nearly every computer has some type of program that has been loaded onto it and never (or hardly) been used.

These programs are easily forgotten about and just left to take up space on your hard drive, which doesn’t hurt anything, Right?

Well, let’s look at it as if it were a junk drawer. (Yes, We All Have One!) That drawer may have room in it for more useless junk, but when you actually need something from it, that something would be much easier to find, if you didn’t have to root through all that other stuff.

Your computer’s hard drive is where everything is stored on your computer and there is no specific drawer for the junk. It just gets all mixed in with the good stuff. When you go about using the good stuff on your hard drive, it must sort through the junk too! This can create (or at least contribute to) poor computer performance.

Removing these programs is one of the many things you can do to help your slow computer run a little more efficiently.

First, if you don’t know what it is, Don’t Remove It! Just because you don’t know what it is, doesn’t mean your computer doesn’t need it. Make sure you know what the program is before you remove it.

Next, if you think you might want use it someday, you should make sure you have the disk, authorization number, or e-receipt to be able to reinstall it later.

Always delete programs through their uninstall link on the Start Menu, or through the ‘Add or Remove Programs’ utility (’Start’ > ‘Control Panel’ > ‘Add or Remove Programs’).

Only remove programs from the list in ‘Change or Remove Programs’. This is the default list you will see when you open ‘Add or Remove Programs’ (the top left box will be highlighted).

There will be system updates and patches in this list too. This is a major reason to only remove programs that you are certain that you know what they are.

Remember, it’s a good idea to defragment your hard drive after removing programs.

(Easy) Computer Tweaks For Non-Geeks

October 31, 2008 by av_dude

I recently wrote a self-help ebook for my mom.

Well, OK. It wasn’t just for her. I have given it to anybody I thought could use it.   (You can too!)

Why?   Because I’m Selfish!   Let me explain.

On numerous occasions I have been found spending hours on the phone, or at the home (or business), of a friend or family member, going through various utilities to help them out with their slow running computer.

I really don’t mind helping someone to get thier slow computer to run a litte more efficiently, but there are two things that can be said about it.

  • First, it can be quite time consuming for the simple fact that typically by the time I get asked for help, the computer is running so slow, you can barely run the utilities that will help improve its performance.
  • Secondly, one of the main reasons it has gotten so slow, is that many people just don’t know that there are certain things they can do on a regular basis to help prevent their computer from running slow in the first place.

So, motivated by my own selfishness, I thought if I could write down some of the techniques I have walked (talked) others through over the phone, maybe I could just give it to them and they could keep thier own PC running more efficiently.

So far, so good. I have only recieved compliments on it!

It’s extremely basic with step by step instructions and screenshots.

I have it as a webpage and as a saveable (and printable) PDF version.

I encourage you to take advantage of my efforts and help out any one you think might benefit from it.

It Might Even Free Up Some Time For You!

This is a little bit different than what you would expect.

This is actually a service in which a McAfee security expert will remotely access your PC and clean it of all viruses, spyware and any other threats or annoying programs hiding in your PC while you watch them do it.

Yeah . . .  they work on your computer, right there in your house, right in front of your very eyes!

Not everyone needs such a service, but if ever you do, how cool is that?

Switching Your Antivirus Software

July 10, 2008 by av_dude

Do you think it’s easy to find information on making the switch to a new antivirus software?

Unfortunately, the only thing you’ll find on most sites is why you should buy the latest antivirus software or the best antivirus software, and of course, why you should buy it from them.

None of this is any good to anyone if you can’t figure out how to get it installed.

Not that it’s any big secret, but a lot of people would like to be told How To Switch Antivirus Software.

If you’ve searched for this information and had no luck, try SmoothWebSurf.com.

Just Wait For The Check!

February 11, 2008 by av_dude

According to the Internal Revenue Service, Identity Thieves are using promises of tax rebates to trick people into revealing financial and personal data,  before Congress has even passed an economic stimulus package.

Some people are receiving phone calls telling them they can only receive a rebate if they provide bank account information for a direct deposit. The IRS is stressing that it does not collect information by telephone and that no bill has even been passed.

The House last week, as part of an economic stimulus package, approved tax rebates of $600 and $1,200 respectively for most individuals and couples, with another $300 per child. The Senate is now considering a slightly different version.

The IRS is also repeating past warnings of e-mails, supposedly coming from the agency, where people are asked to enter personal information on a form needed to obtain a tax refund. A new scam, it said, involves an e-mail notification that a person’s tax return will be audited with instructions to click on links to complete forms with personal and account information.

Businesses and accountants are also getting e-mails with instructions to download information on tax law changes. Clicking on these links could download “malware” onto the recipient’s computer that gives the scammer remote access to the computer hard drive.

In another telephone scam, a caller claims to be an IRS employee who says the taxpayer has not cashed a refund check and asks the person to verify his or her bank account number.

The IRS is advising people not to click on any link from an e-mail claiming to come from the tax agency. People receiving questionable e-mails can contact the IRS.

Computer Running Slow? . . Download A Video!

January 7, 2008 by av_dude

So if you search the phrase “why is my computer running so slow“, One of the results will take you to a site which actually includes over 78 minutes of videos. It would seem to me that if you have a slow running computer, a video will not be the solution. It would make much more sense to take the time required to download a video, and use it to clean up and defragment your hard drive. It won’t cost you $34.95, and you won’t be asked to sell it to everyone you know either.

In With The New.

December 24, 2007 by av_dude

You finally replaced that irritating old slow-poke dinosaur of a computer with a brand spankin’ new one.

It’s the biggest, bestest, fanciest, fastest computer money can buy.
It’ll be great, won’t it?

No more crawlin’ around on the net for you!

You’ll be clickin’ around at lightning fast speed.

Changing pages in a snap, Downloading in seconds, not hours.

It won’t last. It never does.

All too soon you’ll be searching Google for “why is my new computer running so slow”.

Often it seems that one of the most difficult things to do is spend fifty to a hundred bucks to keep a new computer running like a new computer.

Even though you have certainly just spent much more than that, you’re reluctant to go just a little further to keep the new machine running smoothly.

The best time to invest in an internet security suite is not after the computer runs as slow as your old one did.

The best time is now. Be proactive, not reactive.

Bite the bullet now to help your new computer perform like a new computer for a long time to come.

Now What’s Your Excuse?

December 5, 2007 by av_dude

With Free Antivirus Software and a Complete Internet Security Suite for Less than $40, what excuse will you use now?
There is really no reason at all to leave your computer unprotected.

You can’t even get a tank of gas in your car for $40, and of course, nothing is cheaper than free.

Or, if you are fed-up with your current program, this could be a good opportunity to make a switch. You may not like antivirus programs, but you really shouldn’t go online without one.

Problems with the Windows Registry

November 28, 2007 by av_dude

Problems with the Windows registry are a common cause of Windows crashes, slow computer performance and error messages.

By using a registry cleaner regularly and fixing registry errors your system should not only be more stable, but it will also help improve your system performance without expensive hardware upgrades.

With a registry cleaner you will be able to get rid of problematic and obsolete registry entries created by software and drivers that you either uninstalled or deleted incorrectly in the past.

You can maximize your hard drive by removing registry errors, and if you stop unnecessary programs from running in the background, you can free up some of your system’s resources.

You don’t have to be an expert to use a registry cleaner either so you don’t have to worry if you have only limited computer knowledge.
